"Nozze Istriane" is a Co-production between the Croatian National Theatre in Rijeka with the Istrian National Theatre in Pula on the occasion of the 170th anniversary of the birth and recording of the complete opera for the German record company CPO.
It showcased emerging artist Serfany Findrik offering her significant exposure and career advancement opportunities. This opera not only revived a classic piece of cultural heritage but also emphasized the importance of nurturing emerging talent in the arts.
In search of new impulses off the beaten path, we came to another premiere, the opera "The Istrian Wedding" by Antonio Smareglia. Born in Pula, a composer of Puccini's generation, whose works have been performed at the Vienna Opera, Milan's La Scala, and the opera La Fenice in Venice, returns to our stage in co-production with the Istrian National Theatre. The old Osijek staging was performed there for the last time back in 1994. The opera will also be recorded for the German record company CPO, which is another confirmation of excellence when it comes to raising the criteria in repertoire policy, as well as the artistic achievements of Rijeka. The director of this work, which takes place in Vodnjan, is Marin Blažević, and the conductor is Simon Krečič.
The tradition of the continuous theatre life in the city of Rijeka is more than two centuries long. The first theatre building was completed in 1765, however, as it also served other purposes, the construction of a new theatre was initialized at the end of the 18th century.
