FEDORA Artists Series

We had a conversation with dramaturg Agnès-Lòpez Río, and co-artistic directors and choreographers Mattia Russo and Antonio de Rosa, the creators of Mont Ventoux, winner of the FEDORA – VAN CLEEF & ARPELS Dance Prize 2023.

Mont Ventoux is led by the Kor’Sia Collective and the project premiered on 19 October 2023 at Conde Duque Contemporary Culture Center in Madrid, Spain. Since then, the piece has toured to Cannes, Rome, Valencia, Bolzano, and Tenerife with 10 performances reaching 8,000 audience members. Mont Ventoux will be touring with 8 additional performances in 2024, expected to reach a further 6,500 audience members.

On the occasion of the premiere, the artists explained the creation process of Mont Ventoux, from the inspiration and the theme, to the involvement of the dancers, set designers, musician, light designers, costume designers, and technicians that helped create the piece. They also explained how these elements all come together to create deep emotional sensations and a unique journey for every person in the audience.

Through this 1-hour performance, the artists invite us to rethink and reflect on the physical, mental, and intellectual aspects of our daily life in the world we have created, initiating change from within ourselves.

Winning the FEDORA - VAN CLEEF & ARPELS Dance Prize exponentially boosted Kor’Sia’s activity that has seen its annual programming more than double from 25 to 60 performances and producing an average of 5 artistic productions per year for different cultural institutions, theatres, museums, unconventional spaces, as well as developing multiple educational projects,on an international level.

These experiences have catapulted this Italo-Spanish collective to become one of the most up and coming internationally celebrated companies, consolidating it as a flagship of Spanish culture in Europe and worldwide. In 2024, Kor’Sia won the Best Performance at the prestigious “Premios Max” Award for the Performing Arts in Spain.

“Winning the FEDORA – VAN CLEEF & ARPELS Dance Prize has given us the chance to grow and take a step forward. Kor’Sia is a small company and we don’t have annual subsidies; that’s why this internationally renowned philanthropic prize was a big help to the company to allow it to not only develop Mont Ventoux, but also to gain visibility. We look back at those who have won the prize before us, whose work we admire and who are our references. To now be part of this community gives us the hope and confidence that we are on the right track.”
