Conversation around Medea at the Teatro Real

In order to inaugurate its season 23/24, Teatro Real decided to organise a pre-opening gala for young people under 35 years old. On 16 September, the gala, which was also a tribute to Maria Callas to celebrate the centenary of her birth, took place in Madrid. In this context, a conversation around the opera house's newest production Medea was held between Joan Matabosch, artistic director of the opera house, Paco Azorín, stage director of Medea, and Marisa Vazquez Shelly, Director of Private Patronage at the Teatro Real.

Around 100 guests from the Young Benefactor Friends of the Teatro Real attended the talk and were able to see a bit of the performance of Medea, which opened the season of the opera house.

Tragic and rapturous, Medea is best known for the historic interpretations of Maria Callas. This new production, directed by Paco Azorín, and interpreted by talented artists no other than Maria Agresta, Saioa Hernández and Nancy Fabiola Herrera, explores dramatic aspects of the libretto, such as vicarious violence and abandonment.

Watch the video below to discover more about the talk between Joan Matabosch, Marisa Vazquez Shelly and Paco Azorín.
