Blue Water / CivicOpera © AsLiCo i
Presentation
Blue Water / CivicOpera is a contemporary opera for young audiences that aims at spreading awareness on the impact that pollution has on our eco-system, and to promote safeguarding measures ensuring the preservation of our natural habitat. Our objective is to open a conversation that can be continued at school and at home (labs, informational material, school talks, tutorials, civic actions, manifesto).
This project came from the relevance that cultural experiences have on children during their development years and from the belief that a well-informed audience results in knowledgeable citizens. Hence, AsLiCo, Auditorio de Tenerife, and Opera Royal de Wallonie are collaborating and adding their know-how and experience in the cultural and educational sector to bring forward an initiative that educates and stimulates children in building a robust, healthy and eco-friendly society.
This project additionally targets families as they are a relevant stakeholder and a potential catalyst for change.
This project aims at uniting AsLiCo’s artistic and educational expertise both to benefit the development of children and to safeguarding our planet. The project aims to make opera accessible and on trend, free from the usual clichés that depict it as inaccessible and exclusive.
By engaging children, which are stimulated by passion, curiosity, and without prejudice, it enables us to introduce the cultural aspects of opera into their lives and of those in their surroundings.
The co-producing partners, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Auditorio de Tenerifevand Opera Royal de Wallonie, encouraged by their expertise in the field, wish not only to bring younger generations to the opera, but to bring opera itself to younger generations and to their families by arousing, exciting, and offering an experience which is also accessible to young people with sensory impairments. It seemed to us that the right choice to reach that goal was to merge our artistic expertise to that of a current and relevant subject, water contamination, an issue that needs to be urgently addressed, and which will be carefully proposed by the Italian author Giancarlo de Cataldo, who is signing the original libretto.
