Annemarie Ní Churreain

Short Bio

ANNEMARIE NÍ CHURREÁIN is a poet from the Gaeltacht region of northwest Ireland. Her publication list includes Bloodroot (Doire Press, 2017), Town (The Salvage Press, 2018) and The Foundling Crib (Solstice Arts, 2020). Her work has been shortlisted for the Shine Strong Award for best first collection in Ireland and for the Julie Suk Award in the U.S.A. She has held literary fellowships at Akademie Schloss Solitude in Germany, The Jack Kerouac House of Orlando, and Hawthornden Castle Scotland. Ní Churreáin is a recipient of the Next Generation Artists Award from the Arts Council and a co-recipient of the inaugural Constance Markievicz Award.

Annemarie has received praise for her subtle and incisive work on cultural memory and trauma, especially regarding the treatment of vulnerable citizens in state institutions. She has been instrumental in finding the human stories within the 'great' events of Elsewhere, and in bringing both broken and beautiful voices to the fore in the opera.
