Stamatis Pasopoulos

Short Bio

He was born in Serres, where he took his first accordion and Byzantine music lessons, while the stimuli of the musical tradition of the region led to the exploration of traditional instruments & dance.

He studied composition&concert accordion and did his MA studies in Codarts(NL) in contemporary composition. He researched on ways of approaching the Greek musical tradition through contemporary art&improvisation, which is a key element for him both.

He teaches composition with specialization in Greek Traditional & Community Music at the Department of Music Science and Art of the University of Macedonia (GR). He is a PhD candidate while he is supported by the IPEP for the said thesis.

He is active as a composer and performer in the field of traditional and contemporary music. As a composer, he has collaborated with Onassis Stegi, GNO&Athens Festival. He has received honos (1st Prize in the G. A. Papaioannou International Composition Comp.&1st Prize in Panhellenic Accordion Comp.
