eXoplanet is a festival for innovative young music theatre in the heart of Germany

Presentation

With the festival eXoplanet - Tage für neues Musiktheater Sachsen-Anhalt, Theater Magdeburg is establishing a format for new music theatre in central Germany, outside of centres such as Berlin, Rotterdam or Munich. The focus is on performative music theatre formats that will make you want to leave familiar viewing and listening habits behind. We would like to close a gap in the national offering, attract the European and international professional scene to Saxony-Anhalt, give the creators in the state the opportunity to present themselves and unite a young, local and regional audience in an offering in the field of music theatre.

The centrepiece of the festival will be a look into the future lab: A young talent competition for the young independent music theatre scene, in which the winning production will receive a production budget of €10,000 as well as professional support to realise their project as part of the festival. The winning project will be selected by an international jury. Other highlights of the festival include collaborations and performances by and with tutti d'amore from Berlin, the production Teenage Songbook of Love & Sex from Iceland and the Cammerspiele Leipzig. Two of Theater Magdeburg's own productions, the world premiere of the opera Salome by Gerald Barry and the chamber opera Penelope by Sarah Kirkland Snider, are also part of the festival programme. Further guest performances and accompanying events throughout the city round off the festival programme.
The festival will take place in Magdeburg from 9 to 11 May 2025 and performances will be shown throughout the city.
