THE LOST ROOM - Nederlands Dans Theater © Rahi Rezvani i
Presentation
The piece to be created by Franck Chartier is the last part of a trilogy of works by both Chartier and his creative partner Gabriela Carrizo who founded their dance and theatre company Peeping Tom in 2000. In 2013 NDT started a collaboration with Peeping Tom which resulted in the co-creation The missing door. In a constant search for crossovers between dance, theatre and performance, Carrizo staged a powerful and risk-taking performance in which dancers were challenged to delve into apparent characters, requiring an extremely high sensitivity and compassion from the performers. (“A surreal thriller compared to which Twin Peaks seems toddler television”, TROUW. "Carrizo does not just make dance theater, she creates a unique theater experience (...) The missing door offers exactly what the title promises: the missing entrance that NDT needed.” THEATERKRANT)
The second piece , The lost room by Franck Chartier, premiered on October 1, 2015. This piece centers around the idea of how present and future events are capable of influencing the past, our memories and our ability to remember. The piece follows in line of Carrizo’s The missing door, only this time we find ourselves on a ship at sea where freedom and entrapment go hand in hand. Characters seemingly exist in every time and every place and at the same time are timeless, infinite and boundless. In that respect, The lost room could be seen as a melancholic nostalgia for the future. For this piece, Chartier won the prestigious ‘2016 Swan award for most impressive dance production.
In 2017, the trilogy will be completed with another new creation by Chartier. Currently, little is known about the approach for the new creation, except for the fact that the emphasis will be on physical strength.
