Carmen: an emblematic opera, from Europe to Asia

Beijing Music Festival and Opera Comique have reached an agreement lasting for three years to promote cultural exchanges between France and China, through the co-production and diffusion of operas representative of their two Institutions, the setting up of a program of pedagogical ventures which will encourage the cultural exchanges and enhance the technical and artistic competences in both Institutions.

The partnership will start with a new production of Carmen, the most famous opera of Opera Comique repertoire. The production involved Andreas Homoki as stage director and Opernhaus Zürich as coproducer and partner giving a European standing to the project. This first step of the partnership will be the opportunity for Chinese artists to perform in Europe (orchestra and conductor) and to work with European artists, opportunity for masterclasses in China, for a production designed taking into account specificities of a challenging schedule for long distance revival.
