Presentation
The Dublin ARia Project will transform unloved, functional items of Dublin’s street scape – traffic signal boxes – into a stage for augmented reality performances of some of opera’s best loved arias from some of Ireland’s best-known opera singers.
This innovative and engaging presentation will trigger curiosity and delight from the general public and passers-by, bringing opera out of the opera house and on to the streets for all to hear. The project will transform five traffic signal boxes around Dublin into operatic “sets” on which five augmented reality opera performances will appear. These will be within easy walking distance of each other, generating an exciting operatic walking tour for audiences to explore. Artists will be drawn from across Dublin’s multicultural artistic landscape. This initiative will be launched as part of World Opera Day in Oct 2020, with guided tours conducted by INO volunteers.
