Like Water for Chocolate is a new full-length ballet from internationally acclaimed choreographer Christopher Wheeldon with a brand-new score from renowned composer Joby Talbot, designs by eminent designer Bob Crowley, lighting by award-winning lighting designer Natasha Katz and Projection Design by Luke Halls.

Co-commissioned by The Royal Ballet and American Ballet Theatre, the work brings Laura Esquivel’s magical novel of the same name to stage in an exciting collaboration

Set in Mexico, Like Water for Chocolate tells the story of Tita, a young woman whose restrictive upbringing prevents her from marrying. As the youngest daughter she is expected to take care of her mother until she dies. Overwhelmed by a sense of duty and family tradition, Tita’s only form of expression is through cooking but her life takes an unexpected turn when she falls in love with her wealthy neighbour Pedro, their forbidden passion has far reaching and devastating consequences.
