Presentation

Naciketa was inspired by renowned composer, Nigel Osborne and writer, Ariel Dorfman’s lived-life experiences as artists and human rights activists. The stories come from their life’s work with children.

Nigel is one of the world’s experts using music to help those with PTSD from war and conflict, mental and physical disabilities. The concept/stories were gathered by Ariel Dorfman from the Upanishads, the Sanskrit philosophical texts, about an Indian boy who questions Death/Yama and with Music liberates a child, persuades Forgiveness and reminds Memory that we are all infinite.

Naciketa is led by a multi-skilled collaboration of national and international partners sharing the co-creation of this opera; building an highly innovative ensemble and taking risks and opportunities towards a more diverse global profession for artists.

This beautiful work offers alternative cultural pathways to explore the future for children fleeing wars and in situations of abuse and fear; to build greater awareness of children’s rights in the hope that audiences feel moved to make a difference; working with young artists who are more than the future of our profession.
