"Les Ballets Suédois" is a very significant art project of the 1920’s, full of enthusiasm, optimism for the future and social reach. During just five short years (1920-1925) they created over twenty works collaborating with a myriad of prominent visual artists and composers. What the company hopes to capture is this quite frenetic interest towards contemporary ideas.

For this upcoming 100th Anniversary, 2020 to 2025, we thought it would be a fascinating project to look at these works from today’s perspective, through the eyes of emerging choreographers.

The idea is not only to focus on the reconstruction of the original works, but also to allow creations that are in dialogue with the company’s body of work. Through specific references and quotations we would like to emerge ourselves in this very special time and place, the roaring 20’s, based at the new Théâtre des Champs Elysées.

The original company (as our evening intends to be) was about the contemporality of creative process - new types of performances, new ways to collaborate.

Each choreographer will work separately and collectively with a group of dancers from the CCN - Ballet de Lorraine to create their part of the evening. The choreographers are Latifa Laâbissi, Dominique Brun, Volmir Cordeiro together with Petter Jacobsson and Thomas Caley. We are excited to collaborate with these choreographers because of the performative aspect of their work and their detailed interest in the plasticity of the space. Both Dominique and Latifa have already re-enacted or strongly referenced historical subjects in their past work. This trio is interested in the past but also has a very individual and clear choreographic practice.
