Requiem (Siá Cará)

"Requiem (Siá Cará)" is a creation by French-Tunisian choreographer Radhouane El Meddeb and Italian composer Matteo Franceschini, with contemporary dancers of Micompañia from Cuba, directed by Susana Pous Anadon. Matteo Franceschini's original composition, inspired by the intensity of Mozart's Requiem Mass in D minor, K 626 will be performed live by the more than 40 musicians of the Orchestra Haydn under the musical direction of Jean Deroyer, and the composer himself, “aka Tovel”, on electro-acoustic devises. Radhouane El Meddeb will also invite amateur performers from Bolzano to build "a crowd" on stage.

The work, commissioned by the Fondazione Haydn, will premiere on July 21st, 2020, at the international dance festival Bolzano Danza / Tanz Bozen, in Italy. Both renowned artists create evocative, significant works and have, while applying a purely abstract language, a clear sensitivity for the narrative qualities of music and choreography. In this new work they bring together seemingly opposite, dialectical concepts, such as presence & absence, classical & contemporary, professional & amateur, acoustics & electronics.
"Requiem (Siá Cará)" is a dialogue between El Meddeb and Franceschini, between authors and performers, between musical instruments and electronic devices.

"Our Requiem is an instantaneous reflection about life and death, a collective photogram, a flash mob that magically materializes in a public place.
Citizens, a multitude of individuals, anonymous, people of all origins meet and share their concerns, joys, pains, fears, hopes. It's a thought about the essence of humanity.
An eternal collective rite, what is irreversible, immortal, a need for suspension, a break, but also lightness, freedom, a moment where we could overcome our fears and let ourselves be inspired by the joy of life, even for a short time, that helps us to understand the world of the living.”
