Viviscim - The 360° making of an opera performance
Viviscim - The 360° making of an opera performance

Viviscim is an interactive experience inviting the user to discover the making of an opera performance with multimedia content mapped in a 360° tour.

Presentation

English version

Viviscim (which stands for VIrtual VIsit SCenic IMmersive) is a multilingual web application inviting users to discover the scenic art through the sets and backstage of opera houses key productions, in an immersive 360° Virtual Reality environment.

The visitor discovers the making of an opera performance with interactive contents ; videos of the building of the sets, the costumes, the props, the rehearsals, the interviews of the creative team, the technicians, the singers, the conductor and all the different craftsmen involved in the production are mapped out in the 360° tour.

Designed by digital artists in close collaboration with the opera houses teams, Viviscim is an innovative entertainment and teaching tool for all ages live perfomance audiences, teachers and cultural mediators.
By documenting ephemeral installations, Viviscim is a unique archiving extension for live art.

It draws its inspiration in the virtual visits already successfully offered by many theaters all around the world, but aims to focus on the one thing that is truly ephemeral and seems to fascinate the audience : the production set.

With Viviscim, the user can easily navigate in the set recreated in a high resolution imagery, and discover an in-depth informative and educational content on the stage direction, the set and props elements, the music and its composer, the libretto and the dramaturgy. Viviscim highlights the richness and details of the set and offers expert contents.

Our project tends to build bridges between the cultural and social realm, and introduce new dialogues between opera houses and new audiences. By using digital technology, it aims to overcome cultural exclusion issues. The purpose of Viviscim is to offer, freely, a worldwide inventory of opera houses key productions, all collected in one single web platform.

With this project, the Opera Orchestra of Montpellier initiates an original collaboration between an opera house and digital artists from the Collectif Bjorn.

Artistic Team

Our team is composed of members of the Collectif Bjorn and of Opéra Orchestre National Montpellier's digital project manager. Our goals are to promote live arts literacy (especially Opera) within technology-related fields, and new technology literacy within the visual/live arts, and to make these fields accessible to diverse communities.
