We are musicians © Stara Zagora State Opera i
“We are musicians” is a pioneering concept that will develop the first Bulgarian sensory friendly interactive opera performance, suitable for children and youth with special educational needs.
The main idea of the project is to develop the first Bulgarian sensory-friendly interactive opera performance, suitable for children and youth with special educational needs. More, it is going to provide inclusion opportunities for young people with developmental and behavioral challenges, who will be supported by young volunteers, psychologists, opera artists, and educational experts on their first opera experience.
The interactive opera “We are musicians” will consist of two acts. The first one will provide a stage performance experience for the children and youth we and our partners have worked with within the inclusion activities. The second one will be a professional relaxed opera performance, where the young people with special educational needs will be able to feel and taste the magic of opera. It will consist of a mix of classical musical pieces, sensory-friendly scenography, lighting, and sound.
To achieve its goal, Stara Zagora State Opera recruited four key allies – the National Association of Resource Teachers Bulgaria, Stara Zagora International Youth Center, Alternative 55 Association, and Down Syndrome Albania Foundation.
Тhanks to Down Syndrome Albania, “We are musicians” will also be showcased in Tirana, Albania – where we will be able to highlight the inclusion opportunities of opera and ballet and their impact on children and youth who often stay behind the curtain.
We believe that all human beings are capable of experiencing joy and happiness, as well as the chance to develop their mind and body. No matter the physical limits and the public stereotypes. We believe every child has dreams to be better, to get better.
We believe classical music could be used much more to influence positively young people with autism, ADHD, Down syndrome, and other sensory or behavioral challenges. However, there are limited public efforts and no suitable cultural opportunities in Bulgaria in this regard.
If you believe in what we believe, please help us make a child's dream come true!
The State Opera Stara Zagora, founded in 1925, is the second opera theatre in Bulgaria, after the National Opera and Ballet in Sofia. It has the first purpose-built opera house building in Bulgaria. For the last one hundred years, the opera development in Stara Zagora has been invariably associated with the names of the opera singers, born in Stara Zagora, with worldwide careers: Christina Morfova, Dimitar Uzunov, Anna Tomowa-Sintow, Stefka Mineva, and Vesselina Kasarova.
Nowadays Stara Zagora State Opera is a theater with a rich repertoire of opera, operetta, ballet, children’s performances, and symphonic concerts. The theater has guest-performed on international stages in Europe and the USA.
